Kicking Asphalt, Taking Names
2HN Automation provides advanced technologies implementation for industries across the board. Their control system strategies, remote, cloud-based monitoring and dashboard systems help them fulfill their goal of improving process and transparency with technology. One of their customers needed an automated, user-friendly solution for the controller system of the burner for their newest rotary thermal dryer. They also needed to connect the entire control panel to an HMI for user interface and control.
A few years ago, Benjamin Blackwell, at 2HN, was looking for a replacement for Allen Bradley’s discontinued 1761-NET-ENI. He bought RTA’s 515 replacement product. He loved the product and the customer support and has been utilizing RTA gateways ever since. So, it was no surprise when he called RTA to see if we had a gateway that could move data between an Allen-Bradley Micro800 and the series of Modbus RTU actuators and valve controls his client was using for air and fuel output and intake to control the burner of their rotary thermal dryer.
“From pre-sales support, that pointed me to the right unit, to the assistance I received with set-up after purchase, I could not be happier,” Blackwell stated. “RTA has what I need, when I need it and has the staff to back up what they sell. Their gateways are easy to use and in stock, two things that a lot of companies don’t get these days.”
The burner on the dryer features two fuel valves: a primary in the back and a secondary in the center. The burner uses early mixing of fuel and air along with internal gas recirculation to reduce NOx from over 100 PPM down to 30 PPM. RTA’s 460MSMM allowed the Micro820 to control everything that the system’s HMI displayed. The new controller also helped improve fuel consumption and met Ben’s customer’s need to reduce nitrogen oxide while in production.
“Ben’s a good guy and easy to talk to,” RTA’s James Duckett said. “He told me his customer was happy that the project came in under budget and on time. And he seems to love our products, I mean, he’s been buying them for the last two years. He was ecstatic with the gateway’s ease of use and our post-sales support.”
